Video: The lowdown on all of New Jeans' exploding controversies | Min Hee Jin's rebuttals
Source: Issue Feed via YouTube
Video compiles the various controversies surrounding New Jeans and Min Hee Jin regarding feedback with the group's lolita branding, s*xual lyrics, and Min Hee Jin's personal tastes. Min Hee Jin rebukes the accusations in an interview where she explains that it's all unfounded. The pictures in her room were random images gifted to her by friends and she compares it to people saving random scraps of pictures off the internet without a clear source and argues that she shouldn't be held to a higher standard for doing what everyone else does when she doesn't even know what movies the images she's displayed are from. She also explains that the group's concept goes through multiple confirmations from various staff of a team and that it's unreasonable to pin any one decision on only her. As for the controversy surrounding 'Cookie', she explained that it stood for 'CD'. She will also be taking legal action against these accusations.

1. [+100] But from a foreigner's perspective, I can understand why the lyrics to 'Cookie' can be so easily misinterpreted. 'Eat my cookie' is a common expression meant to mean something sexual so isn't it understandable that foreigners would take it that way? Which is why they were questioning why such young kids were being asked to sing such lyrics? The lyrics sound straight out of an American hip hop 19+ rated song. It's not just the word 'cookie' that's probematic here. Furthermore, the writer is a foreigner too, so there's no way all of them didn't know that that's what 'cookie' means to foreigners. It makes me think they set this all up on purpose for noise marketing?
2. [+65] She has been accused of using lolita themes since f(x)'s 'Pink Tape' concept. I don't think it's fair to minimize all of this as "just a concept" when she's consistently had minors dressed in revealing clothes, red cheek make up, and dancing to sultry waves. It's not like other agencies haven't wanted to do these concepts too but they all know that there's a proper line that shouldn't be crossed and Min Hee Jin has always walked right on the cusp of it.
3. [+43] I don't think people's accusations are out of bounds. IU had something similar, too... You have to be lying to think that there wasn't an obvious intention involved here. There is so much work that goes into picking each and every prop behind a concept... which makes me think they're purposely manufacturing these controversies.
4. [+40] The moment I heard 'Cookie', I knew where this was going... It really makes me question whether their agency is just acting like they had no idea or if they're really just that naive...
5. [+29] I find controversies like this odd. When the group performs 'Cookie', they are not dressed in anything revealing, and their dance is totally hip hop style. I could understand this controversy if they dressed and danced more sexually but there's nothing sexual at all about their stages. They're also always wearing biker shorts and longer skirts. If anything, New Jeans is dressed more conservatively than the other girl groups...
6. [+21] There's no smoke without fire. These accusations aren't coming from no where ㅎㅎ It's obvious that this is the consequence of Min Hee Jin choosing to cross a line she shouldn't have. I admit that New Jeans has a great concept with amazing planning behind it but it's clear that they purposely implemented some controversial elements knowing the noise marketing it would produce. Please don't act like that wasn't your intention all along because the fakeness grosses me out.
7. [+19] All of these accusations really felt so forced to me... What are these haters doing to these kids ㅜ They're just jealous and can't stand the fact that someone else is doing better than them. It hasn't even been a month since New Jeans' debuted and they're already being met with such an outpour of attention ㅋㅋ
8. [+3] Feels like threatening legal action just because she "didn't intend it that way" isn't the right way to go about handling this...
9. [+84] Wow... I think people are just looking for reason to find controversy. I don't understand how you could come to such a conclusion at all. Wake up, all of you.
10. [+112] I think people have just given up on using their brain cells... they're making up all these controversies and going "hul" "crazy" all within their own communities...
11. [+37] This is how popularity goes... you're always going to have to deal with jealous haters who will hate on you for no reason just because they know that your popularity threatens their own unnis and oppas' popularities
12. [+36] The fact that these accusations have been made not only within Korean communities but Americans too mean that there's something very wrong with their concept right now. Americans are way more sensitive to protecting the rights of minors than we are, and that's what a normal, first world society should do. A society that turns the people concerned about these issues into 'jealous haters' is not right. If an agency is forcing their minors into performing sexualized concepts on stage, it's only right for that agency to be criticized by the public. They are minors who need to be protected under the law. As an adult, you should be able to pick out and see exactly what is wrong between the lines of their concept, and there's something wrong with you if you don't see it. These accusations aren't baseless. Their concept is completely controversial.
13. [+8] I remember people made these accusations against IU in '15... why do people want to torture stars so badly..
14. [+17] It's clear that the agency cares about the girls. They're always dressed in biker shorts underneath everything when other girl groups are prancing around in underwear.
15. [+22] If their agency does not want these controversies popping up, then they should be more careful. As people working in that industry, they should know better than anyone else what those lyrics can mean.
16. [+13] "They have a great relationship with Min Hee Jin" ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ I mean, that's a relationship between a CEO and their staff... these girls just barely debuted, they're not at a status where they can say anything about their relationship with her ㅋㅋㅋ
17. [+9] Min Hee Jin does seem to have... interesting tastes. Just go look at the stuff she's produced for SM.
